Shifting the Climate Change debate

If we are to have a world where children can grow healthy and prosper, we must shift the climate debate from the current goals of the mainstream environment groups to our goals of achieving a near zero emission and reducing atmospheric greenhouse gases.

Beyond Zero Emissions is achieving this by engaging the mainstream environment groups, scientists and politicians, educating the public, and initiating research as to how this can be achieved.

We have been advocating zero emission minus goals privately for several months and began our formal advocacy with our Tasmanian tour in January.

Advocacy of other groups around Australian will continue over the next two months, prior to the campaign changing pace.

We work with other groups such as the Greenleap Strategic Institute who are also working on this objective.

Zero Emission Network

We are developing links with existing groups, and helping establish new groups, to form an effective grassroots campaign around the issue of zero emissions.

The network will act as an independent voice in the campaign for achieving net zero emissions and below.

Public education

Beyond Zero Emissions has already begun talking to school and community groups about climate change and the solutions needed.

This work is vital until a significant proportion of the community realise that we must begin moving to zero emissions immediately.

State and federal governments

Because of the immensity of the task to transform our society to a Zero Emission Minus society, government must eventually lead and coordinate this process

Beyond Zero Emissions has begun to advocate adoption of Zero Emissions Minus goals to the political parties.

Shutting down the BIG POLLUTERS

Campaign Against CoalIf we are to have any chance of reducing emissions, shutting down our biggest polluters is of utmost importance. First on the list is the coal-based electrical production industry.

Other large emitters of greenhouse gases such as the aluminium industry have a simple choice - they can either use clean power from renewables, or shut down.

Ending logging and land clearing

Almost beyond comprehension, Australia still destroys its native forests (including old growth, threatened species habitat, water catchments, and rainforests) by clearfell logging and converting to short rotation production forests. This is largely done to provide woodchips to make paper such as REFLEX, here in Australia and overseas.

In addition to the destruction of wildlife, habitat and water yields, clearfell logging destroys 2/3 of the value of the forests as carbon sinks, releasing hundreds of tonnes of carbon per hectare.

Logging of our native forests and land clearing needs to be stopped.

We have campaign meetings on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday night of each month, at 6.30pm, at our office Level 1, Suite 10, Kindness House, 288 Brunswick St, Fitzroy.
