Beyond Zero Emissions

"Beyond Al Gore" talks program

Have you seen 'An Inconvenient Truth' and want to know more, or are you interested in learning about climate change? We would like to visit you!

Beyond Zero Emissions, in conjunction with the Zero Emission Network and the Greenleap Strategic Institute, is running a talks program specifically aimed at grassroots community environment groups and grassroots climate action groups.

Topics

  1. Introduction to global warming: Al Gore level education.
  2. Beyond Al Gore: beyond changing light globes, what's really needed.
  3. Why zero emission goal is needed now: Where is the science? What are the consequences of not moving as soon as possible? What are the commercially available solutions? Why your group should adopt the zero emission minus goal.
  4. Campaigning on climate change for the 2007 federal election, how to act autonomously while coordinating your efforts to create a grassroots movement for change. Why this election counts, and why the period before the election may be just as crucial to our future as the period after.
  5. Specific training for climate action groups in all areas of advocacy, operations and campaigning.

We also provide a variety of presentations covering the broad issues surrounding climate change. We can give multimedia talks to schools, groups, businesses or individuals, with the level of information adjusted according to the audience. Topics include:

  • Avoiding a runaway climate event
  • Zero emissions solutions - how to achieve a zero emissions future
  • The science behind choosing a zero emissions target
  • Forests and climate change
  • Plug-in hybrid technology
  • Renewable energy
  • Carbon offsets
  • The imminent risk of rising carbon levels

There is no charge for a BZE talk, though any donation to cover costs would be most welcome.

  • "Adrian Whitehead is a well informed, extremely passionate and engaging presenter. He has presented at two of our Student Environment Conferences over the past three years, his latest presentation being on the Beyond Zero Emissions Campaign. He delivers his testimonials in a humorous and accessible manner that I believe has the correct mix of urgency and hope that inspires us to actually do something!

  • "Adrian Whitehead and Matthew Wright provided an insightful presentation on the role of Alcoa in accelerating global warming. In the blazing afternoon light they kept the interest of our 14-year-old students with many new angles on the problems of aluminium production. In fact, a number of students rated it as their best talk over the weekend of the Earthsharing Challenge. They found the global warming story more pertinent coming from younger people."
