Paid contractor position: Technical Research Coordinator – Zero Carbon Australia (ZCA) Transport Project

Reports to: Project Director - ZCA Transport Plan and Technical Director ZCA Project

Based at: Beyond Zero Emissions (BZE), Fitzroy VIC

Job Purpose: To support the research, development and communication of the ZCA Transport Plan. After the release of the Transport Plan, the focus of this role will shift to one of the subsequent ZCA Plans – Stationary Energy version 2, Industrial Processes or Australian Renewable Energy Superpower.

Description
Beyond Zero Emissions is one of Australia’s fastest growing organisations. Every day we are reaching out to new people through our Repower Australia talks, presentations, media and events.

The Outreach Team will assist us in getting in touch with people who attended our events. Team members will follow up with people via email or phone. The aim will be to get feedback on our presentations, give them more information about our climate solutions, and also to invite them to get more involved by volunteering or donating.

Requirements

Corporate engagement team: Engaging businesses in the Beyond Zero vision

Description:

Help engage businesses in the Beyond Zero vision by joining the Corporate Engagement team. The team will build a support base for zero carbon solutions in the energy, transport, buildings and land use sectors. Businesses will be invited to find out more about the Zero Carbon Australia project through holding a presentation at their workplace, and also to contribute via our sponsorship program.

Business can play a key role in pushing for a safe climate and building our capacity as an organisation. Volunteers will help by contacting businesses, building relationships and developing communications materials.

COMMUNICATIONS TEAM: PUBLIC SPEAKERS SUPPORT GROUP

Roles:  PUBLIC SPEAKING SUPPORT TEAM MEMBERS

Description:  This role is a promotions and events support role, focused on helping BZE get our climate solutions research to as many people as possible. It involves contacting organisations and businesses to offer a BZE presentation, and helping to schedule them in to the presentation timetable. Consider yourself a promotions project manager? This is the opportunity for you!

COMMUNICATIONS TEAM: Beyond Zero Emissions Public Speaker

Roles: BEYOND ZERO EMISSIONS PUBLIC SPEAKERS (VIC, QLD, NSW and ACT)

Description:  Become a BZE speaker, presenting the good news that a zero carbon economy can be powered by today's know how and technology.  Let the world know that "We Can Solve It."For this role you will need to be enthusiastic and upbeat and be prepared to learn. We will offer training so that you can understand the basic facts, figures and technologies and so you can answer the prickly questions. You will also need to work with the team to identify speaking opportunities in order to grow Beyond Zero Emissions' influence and to attract more funding and volunteers.

Requirements: Have completed a BZE speaker training course and be accredited as a BZE presenter.

Time:
Flexible - aim for at least one presentation per month. The initial training course is run as an intensive weekend 1-2 times a year. You must also participate in occasional ongoing development as required to keep your skills and knowledge up-to-date.

Liaises with:
The Presentations Coordinator and the Coordinator of your state/territory.

ZERO CARBON AUSTRALIA PROJECT: Researchers and administration helpers

Description:  Administration help is needed within the division of the award-winning ZCA research plans. Assist in coordinating volunteers, editing, referencing and other admin duties and support the research team which is integral to our transition to a zero carbon economy!

Description: Help us develop video content to populate youtube and other video sites by managing a team of volunteer film makers and producers. We would love to have you on board to help create innovative media which captures the attention and imagination of the public.

EVENTS: Discussion Group Coordinator

Description: The monthly Beyond Zero Emissions Discussion Group focuses on solutions and is located at Kindness House, 288 Brunswick St, Fitzroy. It is a well established event that has hosted many prominent players in the climate change solutions debate. The coordinator is responsible for setting up the venue on the night and packing up afterwards. Tasks include printing sign-in sheets, flyers, signs, hand-outs for participants, and also organising tea, coffee and nibbles. Some preparation work (via email) may also be required, to respond to RSVPs and questions.

EVENTS: Monthly Film Night assistant

Description: This is a newly created BZE social event, a chance for campaigners to stop, relax and enjoy time together while being challenged and educated on all things climate change.  We are seeking an individual to help publicise and run these events, working with the film night coordinator. Appropriate films need to be chosen, they need to be promoted to assure good attendance and the venue prepared (we have an existing venue but can also look at alternatives).  This is a very straight forward, enjoyable and rewarding role.

Information Technology: Online Tech Manager

BZE is growing fast and solid frameworks are key to allow the efficient upscale of the work and reach of BZE.

The main tasks of this role will be the management and development of the public website (Drupal) and the member database (Drupal/Civicrm). 

Working with the various teams that contribute to the website and CRM including the tech group, communications group and the volunteer managers across the organisation.

Responsibilities
• Manage and contribute to the development of new functionality and features
• Manage skilled and technical volunteers
• Assist the training of technical volunteers 
• Manage backups and emergency procedures
• Maintain an active relationship with the Drupal community

Skills/Experience
• Good coding skills and ideally experience with Drupal/PHP/MySQL.

Beyond Zeo Emissions is growing in leaps and bounds and we are looking at revamping our membership system and services.  We would also like full contact management in order to take advantage of engagement opportunities as they arise. Running an open source online campaign we have identified civicrm as being possibly the best tool to meet our membership needs. (though we're open to alternative suggestions)   If you have civicrm or similair database skills and would like to help us solve our membership problem then we need your help asap.
